The New York City & Vicinity District Council of Carpenters are making Thanksgiving brighter by delivering warm meals and turkeys to families in need throughout Queens. Union carpenters and contractors gave back to communities in partnership with Congresswoman Grace Meng, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, State Senator Jessica Ramos, Council Member Lynn Schulman, Council Member Francisco Moya, Assemblymember Steven Raga, Assemblymember Catalina Cruz, Council Member Julie Won, Assemblymember Jessica Gozalez-Rojas, Council Member Nantasha Williams, and Catholic Charities throughout November.

The union participated in 19 events throughout New York City, including nine in Queens. Overall, they distributed 2,500 turkeys totaling more than $75,000 donated this Thanksgiving.

Union carpenters and contractors kicked off this season of giving with events in partnership with Council Member Nantasha Williams at the Allen Community Senior Citizen Center, Council Member Lynn Schulman in Richmond Hill, and Catholic Charities in Richmond Hill. They continued their volunteer efforts with Council Member Francisco Moya at Helen Marshall Playground and First Baptist Church. They dropped off turkeys at Congresswoman Grace Meng and Assemblymember Steven Raga’s event in Flushing and partnered with Julie Won for a pick-up event. Union carpenters and contractors also joined Assemblymember Catalina Cruz and Assemblymember Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas at an event at Elmhurst Hospital. Finally, they partnered with State Senator Jessica Ramos at Louis Armstrong Middle School and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards at Queens Borough Hall to round out their efforts in the Bronx. The efforts are a part of the union’s long-standing tradition of building up New York communities.

“Uplifting the communities where we live and work is an essential part of being a union carpenter. I’m so proud of our members who continue to generously donate their time and resources to help families in need every holiday season,” stated New York City District Council of Carpenters Executive Secretary-Treasurer Joseph Geiger. “We are grateful to have this opportunity to give back to our community. Every New York City family deserves a warm meal on Thanksgiving, and we’re proud we can help bring joy to households across Queens this holiday season.”

“Every family, regardless of circumstance, deserves a Thanksgiving meal which is why I support the carpenters union in supplying turkeys to families across New York City,” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards. “I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Carpenters Union for their generous donation and active participation in the Queens community. I am honored to play a role in ensuring that no Queens family is left without the joy of a Thanksgiving meal.”

“There is nothing more important than giving back to my community, especially during the holiday season. Watching members of the community uplift each other makes me proud to represent the residents of Queens,” said Congresswoman Grace Meng. “It was an honor to join the carpenters union who generously donated 100 turkeys to my turkey drive in partnership with Assemblymember Steven Raga. These turkeys will make a lasting impact on families throughout Queens who deserve a full meal this Thanksgiving.”

“This holiday season, I am thankful to have been able to provide some relief to families across Queen’s by supplying them with turkeys for Thanksgiving. It is always a pleasure to join forces with the carpenters union and give back to the Queens community that has given us so much. Thank you to all those who stopped by our event and to the union carpenters for their continued dedication to uplifting their neighbors in Queens,” said State Senator Jessica Ramos.
