Pregnant women to receive information about the risks of gestational diabetes and pre-term labor
On Wednesday, November 30th, NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst will host a Diabetes Awareness Month event for the community.
The event will feature healthy cooking demonstrations, tips from physicians about how to lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, which is strongly linked to diet and exercise, and guidance from a nutritionist regarding how to make traditional ethnic cuisines heart-healthier. Pregnant women will receive information regarding the relationship between pre-term labor and gestational diabetes.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about “healthy portion” plate guidelines, nutrition, free exercise programs, and hospital services available to help interested individuals lead healthier lives.
