Senator Jessica Ramos (D, SD-13) hosted her annual Turkey Giveaway on November 20th at P.S. 19 in Corona, where, along with IUJAT and the Carpenters, the office gave out over 400 turkeys, including halal and kosher options. This event featured free books, live music by the High School for Arts and Business Jazz Band, and hot food served by The World Changers. Collaborating with the VFW Post 150, the Senator hosted a second Turkey Giveaway on November 27th, where they served another 200 families with frozen turkeys.
During the week before Thanksgiving, the office of Senator Ramos distributed another 400 turkeys to schools, churches, and non-profits in Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, East-Elmhurst, and Corona.
“This time of year is significant for our neighbors and their families but remains an unfortunate reminder of the high cost of living that impacts our communities,” said State Senator Jessica. “I am grateful to have helped alleviate some of the burden of expensive Thanksgiving dinners for many families in the district. We are particularly grateful for our partners and sponsors who gave their time or resources to ensure families had a home-cooked meal this holiday.”

“The NYC Carpenters Union is committed to making a positive impact on our community, and delivering turkeys to numerous families throughout New York City is just one way we’re doing that,” said Joseph Geiger, Executive Secretary-Treasurer NYC Carpenters. “We are happy to again work in solidarity with Senator Jessica Ramos to make a difference and put much-needed food on the tables of many of our extended Queens family this Thanksgiving.”
“Renewal Church would like to express our gratitude to the State Senator and her team for the donation of turkeys. These will help feed more than 300 low-income people at the Community Dinner event we will host on November 26 and 27 at our location, 102-07 43 Avenue, in Corona, Queens. Senator Jessica Ramos represents New York’s 13th District in the State Senate, which includes the Queens neighborhoods of Corona, East Elmhurst, and Jackson Heights, as well as parts of Elmhurst, Rego Park, and Forest Hills. Ramos chairs the Senate Committee on Labor, where she’s fought to pass historic legislation to grant farm & domestic workers basic labor protections, raise and index the minimum wage, and secure $2.1B to create a fund for workers excluded from pandemic-related relief. Senator Ramos was born at Elmhurst Hospital to undocumented Colombian immigrants, grew up in Astoria, and now lives in Jackson Heights with her two sons.
