Open Fertility, launched earlier this year by the renowned team behind Spring Fertility, announced the opening of its second clinic—located in the heart of Astoria, Queens. The expansion builds on Open’s mission to make exceptional fertility care more accessible and affordable, following the first confirmed ongoing clinical pregnancy at its inaugural clinic in Roseville, California earlier this month.
Open Fertility is transforming traditional fertility care by eliminating unnecessary costs and procedures, while maintaining the highest clinical and lab standards. The model prioritizes transparency, simplicity, and patient-centered design, setting new standards in reproductive health.
The new Queens location will be led by Valerie Shafran, FNP-C, a nurse practitioner with extensive expertise in maternal health and a strong commitment to personalized, compassionate care. Her work will be supported by Dr. Debra Minjarez, Open’s Chief Medical Director. With more than 20 years of experience leading world-class fertility centers, Dr. Minjarez previously served as Medical Director at both Spring Fertility and the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine in Denver.
Open Fertility is located in Astoria, Queens (36-13 30th Ave.).

“At Open, we believe everyone deserves access to excellent fertility care—without barriers like cost, complexity, or geography,” said Dr. Minjarez. “We’ve redesigned the entire experience around patients and their needs.”
Despite being home to more than 2 million residents, Queens is currently served by only five IVF-dedicated clinics—compared to over 25 in Manhattan. Open’s Astoria location aims to close this gap by providing a modern, affordable alternative for families across the borough.

“We believe it’s possible to deliver high-quality care at a much lower cost without sacrificing quality or service to patients who often do not have access to fertility care,” said Dr. Nam Tran, co-founder of Spring Fertility. “While there are low-cost fertility centers available, too often they reduce cost at the expense of quality through reduced egg and embryo yield, hence lowering the overall success rate. We believe we can cut costs of traditional IVF by 40-50% through our clinical innovations and delivery of care while maintaining excellent outcomes.”
“Spring Fertility offers the most highly personalized, unparalleled fertility care with exceptional outcomes, but we know that this approach alone can’t scale to meet growing demands,” added Dr. Peter Klatsky, co-founder of Spring Fertility. “Open Fertility is our solution: a more accessible model that enables more people to receive high-quality, respectful fertility treatment.”
To celebrate the opening, Open Fertility hosted a community block party on Sunday, July 27, from 1-5 PM at Pig Beach Astoria (35-37 36th Street, Astoria). Local leaders, community members, and patients attended. The team at Open Fertility offered a giveaway of five free consultations during the event.
