lacwPan American Musical Art Research (PAMAR), founded and directed by Polly Ferman, announces dates for the 8th Latin American Cultural Week (LACW), November 15 through 24. This will be a diverse and dynamic showcase of the rich culture of Latin America throughout New York City, with more than 60 theater, music, dance, film, auctions and visual arts presentations.

LACW 2013 is presented as part of a special nonprofit partnership with The Nature Conservancy (http://www.nature.org). Polly Ferman has said, “We are proud to announce this partnership with The Nature Conservancy, and are happy to join them in promoting their work of protecting nature, preserving life, and making a positive impact around the world as they join us in sharing the cultures of Latin America with their international membership.”

LACW highlights will include the second year of Celebracion de la Cultura Hispana in Manhattan’s Washington Heights, featuring the History of Tango, performed on November 21 by Quintet of the Americas woodwind ensemble and the Binelli-Ferman Duo (bandoneonist Daniel Binelli and pianist Polly Ferman) at Our Saviour’s Atonement Lutheran Church, 178 Bennett Avenue in Manhattan.

Other LACW highlights will be the Brazilian Endowment for the Arts special participation in music, visual arts and literature programs, and a performance by pianist Polly Ferman and her GlamourTango ensemble on November 18 at Malbec Tango House in Manhattan.

LACW 2013’s November 16 Opening Event will be Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival, presented at Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street in Manhattan (http://www.lepoissonrouge.com/). More than 60 musicians will be on stage performing the entire spectrum of Colombian rhythms and styles.

LACW 2013’s Manhattan Closing Event, a performance by Ballet Hispanico (http://www.ballethispanico.org/), is scheduled for November 23 at The Apollo Theater, 253 West 125th Street in Manhattan. The nation’s leading Latino dance company returns to the Apollo stage, following last season’s sold-out event.

The Brooklyn Closing Event, Canto de Vida Nueva, will be on November 24 at Performance & Art Space, 622 Degraw Street and will feature vocal music by Chilean composer Javier Farias, performed by Khorikos Choral Ensemble.

Among other participating musicians and ensembles in the ever-growing LACW list soprano Angelica de la Riva, pianist Cesar Reyes, bandoneonist Daniel Binelli, Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival, guitarist Francisco Roldan, the Latin American Piano and Song Festival of NYC, Mano a Mano, guitairst Nilko Andreas, North/South Consonance, bassist Pedro Giraudo, Quintet of the Americas, Regional de NY and the Whin Music Project.

Dance companies participating include the Astoria Tango Club, Ballet, Dardo Galletto Studios, Estampas Folkloricas and the Limon Dance Company. Visual arts participants include Christie’s, Galeria Galou, Museo del Barrio, PINTA Latin Art Fair and Sotheby’s.
