The Havana Film Festival NY calls Queens its home for the weekend of April 7-8, 2018 with a special selection of screenings at the Museum of the Moving Image. The program mixes old with new in unexpected ways- showcasing Cuban classics in 21st century state-of-the-art formats and presenting documentaries of iconic figures and locations that, while situated in a past, remain in the “forever.”
The year is 1672, and rebellion is in the air. A group of Cuban revolutionaries lead an uprising against the Spanish occupying their country, unleashing demons, death, destruction, and a biting critique of religion as a tool of power and control. This is a classic of Cuban cinema, digitally restored by the Academy Film Archive and the Cinemateca de Cuba.
