THIS IS PART OF A SERIES DURING THE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Three-time GRAMMY® Award winner Jon Secada is bringing family into the spotlight with a special recording of “Unforgettable” alongside his daughter, Mikaela Secada, featured on his new Nat King Cole tribute album Fascination, created in collaboration with multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist and composer Gonzalo Rubalcaba and produced by Mary Megan Peer (CEO, Peermusic) and Julio Bagué (GRAMMY® Award-winning producer and Vice President, Latin Division, Peermusic). The recording is available on all digital and streaming platforms by Peermusic through One RPM.
The tender duet captures the timeless elegance of Nat King Cole’s classic while infusing it with a deeply personal touch — a father’s pride and a daughter’s heartfelt voice blending in perfect harmony. The recording nods to the beloved 1991 version by Natalie Cole, who famously performed the song as a virtual duet with her late father. In a similar spirit, Secada and his daughter bring their own family bond and generational connection to the iconic song.
“Singing with Mikaela on ‘Unforgettable’ is exactly what the title says — a moment I will cherish forever,” says Secada. “My love for Nat King Cole’s music is something I’ve carried my whole life, and to share that with my daughter in such a meaningful way is beyond special.”
“Recording ‘Unforgettable’ with my dad was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” added Mikaela Secada. “Not only is it such an iconic song with a beautiful history but sharing it with him made it even more meaningful. Growing up, I always admired his voice and artistry, so standing beside him in the studio and blending our voices together was incredibly special — it felt like we were creating our own little piece of history as father and daughter.”
Rubalcaba notes, “The chemistry between Jon and Mikaela was palpable in the studio. Their voices tell a story that’s both intimate and universal — the kind of connection Nat King Cole’s music has always evoked.”
Like Cole, Secada has enjoyed rare crossover success, topping charts in both English and Spanish. Nat King Cole famously recorded albums such as Cole Español and A Mis Amigos, expanding his audience across Latin America and Spain. Decades later, Secada followed a similar path with bilingual hits like “Just Another Day” and “Angel,” solidifying his place as one of the most successful Latin crossover artists of his era. This shared ability to bridge languages and cultures adds another layer of meaning to Fascination.
Fascination reimagines Cole’s classics in English and Spanish, blending jazz, Latin, and pop influences. Along with “Unforgettable,” the album features collaborations with renowned artists including Hamilton de Holanda (“Acércate Más,” “Come Closer to Me”), Aymée Nuviola (“Quizás, Quizás, Quizás”), and Jorge Glem (“Tres Palabras”).
