Tambacum, un destacado grupo de música tradicional afrocolombiana de Nuquí, Chocó, Colombia, ha llegado a los EE.UU. por primera vez. Este sábado 7 de septiembre se presenta en Terraza 7 de Jackson Heights, Queens (40-19 Gleane St.) a una cuadra de la estación de la calle 82 del tren 7.
El viernes 13 de septiembre se presenta en Starr Bar de Brooklyn (214 Starr Street).
Es la primera vez que los géneros de Tamborito y Cumbancha se presentan en América del Norte. Tambacum ha estado en gira internacional y visitará varios estados de esta nación. En ocasión del Mes de la Herencia Hispana en los Estados Unidos.

Biography
Tambacum is a traditional and folkloric music group founded in 2020 on the Afro-Pacific coast of Colombia and in the vibrant bohemian neighborhood of Nuquí’s Calle de la Virgen. It’s at the centermof the region rich in culture and in natural beauty where the rainforest meets the Pacific Ocean abundant in history, music, ancestry, wild life, and water. Tambacum’s performances are a celebration of Nuquí’s Afro-Colombian soul, pulsating with the rhythms of Tamborito and Cumbancha. The group’s music transcends boundaries, effortlessly weaving generations and traditions into a harmonious symphony of sound and spirit.
The group is led by Jhon Esteban Lasso Mena, a visionary lead singer, composer, and renowned dancer whose leadership has navigated Tambacum to national recognition that embodies the region’s rich cultural tapestry. Each note, each drumbeat, is a testament to the collective wisdom and spirit of the community, resonating with audiences on a profound level.
In 2021, Tambacum claimed the coveted first place at the Traditional and Campesino Music Festival, cementing their status as cultural ambassadors of Nuquí. Their involvement in events such as the Flecho Festival, Aguacero Festival, Cumbancha Festival and their role as organizers of the
Tamborito Festival underscore their unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of their beloved hometown.
Tambacum’s influence extends far beyond the borders of Nuquí. Tambacum has toured across Colombia visiting major cities of Medellín, Bogotá and Quibdo. In June 2022, the group represented their community with pride at Documenta 15 in Kassel, Germany, alongside nonprofit
organization, Más Arte Más Acción. This global platform allowed them to engage with artists from diverse backgrounds, fostering cultural exchange and collaboration on an international scale.
In yet another testament to their artistic prowess, Tambacum has been selected as LiberArte’s Artist in Residence for the prestigious 2023-2024 term. This honor not only recognizes their past achievements but also serves as a springboard for future endeavors, providing them with resources and support to further enrich and expand their creative vision.
