Senator Jessica Ramos is proud to unveil a brand-new sound system at the Elmhurst Older Adults Center, part of the Institute for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly (IPRHE), ushering in a renewed era of community engagement, cultural programming, and wellness for aging Queens Residents.
As May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, Senator Ramos is leading the charge to ensure that older adults have access to enriching environments that promote positive aging outcomes, including improved social connectedness, reduced loneliness, and increased cognitive engagement.
“I grew up understanding the importance of honoring and uplifting our elders,” said Senator Ramos, “Supporting initiatives that nurture mental well-being, social connection, and meaningful community experiences for our senior constituents is essential to building a healthier, more inclusive future. I will always ensure our elder community has the opportunity to foster mental health initiatives that promote enrichment, community, and connection. As long as I serve, I will fight to ensure these values are embedded in every public investment we make.”
The upgraded system will support events ranging from dance classes and musical performances to cultural celebrations, all designed to reduce social isolation, which remains one of the leading contributors to depression and anxiety among older adults. This project is part of Senator Ramos’s effort to improve accessibility, safety, and mental health support throughout District 13.
“Our seniors are very grateful for the addition of this new sound system! Music and the activities cultivated through music brings them joy and happiness. When music is played at our center, whether it’s in the morning, afternoon, or on Fridays, they quickly engage, socialize and
reminisce with one another about the glory of their yesteryears!” said Miriam Rolon, Director at Elmhurst Older Adults Center
“We are very grateful to Senator Ramos. This sound system allows us to communicate effectively with all our senior clients regarding upcoming events and many other things that matter to them! It even enables us to connect smart devices to play music our seniors enjoy. It has enhanced the center experience for all our seniors and has been great for our center!” said Erik Eitel, Assistant Director at Elmhurst Older Adults Center

Senator Jessica Ramos had fun at the Elmhurst Older Adults Center.
“Senator Ramos’s support has made a meaningful difference in our Center. This upgrade will significantly improve communication during our programs and activities, making it easier for our older adults to stay engaged, connected, and involved. Thank you, Senator, for your commitment to our center and our Members!” said Catiria Ayende, IPRHE Administrator
“Our older adults enjoy the new sound system, our Karaoke day has become more fun and engaging. Senator Ramos, thank you for your support!” said, Gin Moy Lee, Case Worker at Elmhurst Older Adults Center
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, May 29 2025.
