The toy drive was co-sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, NYPD and Queens Center
The holiday season is back. In conjunction with the Queens Center, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots and the New York Police Department, State Senator Jose Peralta distributed over 3,000 toys to schools, family shelters, and community and faith-based organizations in the 13th Senatorial District as part of his annual Toy Drive. The event took place Thursday night at Queens Center Mall. Kids and families participated in the traditional toy drive.
“We organized this toy drive every year to give back to the community and to ensure children in need have a reason to be happy about during the holidays. As many parents go through difficult times and cannot afford to buy a toy for their kids, I hope these gifts bring a little joy to them. I want to thank the partnering Queens Center, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, and the NYPD for making the toy drive possible another year,” said Senator Peralta.
The donated toys were distributed to representatives of 20 schools, shelters, community councils of police precincts 110th, 114th and 115th, and community and faith-based organizations, groups located in the Senator’s district. The presents will go to children, among other locations, living at the Landing, Kings Inn Shelter, and the Corona Family Residence. Other associations that will distribute the toys to children in need include LeFrak Tenants Association, Catholic Charities, A Child’s Place Day School, and Elmcor Youth Activities.
