Resorts World Casino New York City (RWCNYC) announced a $50,000 grant to the Queens Economic Development Corporation to fund their StartUP! Business Plan Competition for 2017-18, a competition which aims to support budding entrepreneurship in the borough of Queens.

The partnership was officially announced at the QEDC’s Queens Taste 2017, a fundraiser held at the New York Hall of Science in Corona, Queens on Tuesday, May 2. Bill Singh, RWCNYC’s Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, attended the event to present the check along with Michelle Stoddart, Director of PR and Community Development and Imani Murray, PR and Community Development Coordinator. Singh currently serves on QEDC’s board. He also participated in the StartUp! program as Judge and an Instructor in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

“Resorts World Casino New York City is honored to join QEDC to support small business owners in Queens,” said Michelle Stoddart, Director of PR and Community Development at Resorts World Casino New York City. “The StartUP! Business Plan Competition will enable local entrepreneurs to access new tools and resources to continue to innovate in the booming Queens economy.”

Participants in the entrepreneurship competition will attend training classes and then submit a business plan to be judged by a panel for a chance to win funding for their business.

“Because entrepreneurs are the bedrock of our borough’s economy and helping small business owners is a main facet of our mission, we are extremely happy to partner with Resorts World Casino New York City to offer StartUP! this year,” said QEDC Executive Director Seth Bornstein.

Contestants have the opportunity compete in one of three categories: Community, Food-based, or Innovation. Eligible businesses must be startups currently based in Queens and winners can receive a grant of up to $10,000. The competition begins in August and ends in March.
