U.S. Rep. Grace Meng joined AARP today at a free paper-shredding event at the Queens Library at Fresh Meadows.  Rep. Meng and AARP State Director Beth Finkel addressed Queens residents about the importance of protecting against identity theft and helped New Yorkers shred their confidential documents free of charge.

In 2018, New Yorkers filed more than 24,000 reports of identity theft with the Federal Trade Commission.  The FTC estimates New Yorkers lost $65.7 million to fraud. To avoid having your sensitive information compromised, security experts recommend shredding old documents containing sensitive information.
