RCN New York Hosts Scholarship Competition for Latino Students

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, award-winning internet, digital TV and phone services provider to award a $4,500 scholarship to winner of the Hispanic Heritage Month contest

RCN New York, an award-winning provider of high-speed internet, digital TV and phone services, has announced its first Hispanic Heritage Month contest. Full or part-time students, 14 years or older, are encouraged to complete the online submission form and create a unique video or essay to be entered to win a $4,500 scholarship. Essays may be submitted at rcn.com/your-dreams and videos should be emailed to hispanic.heritage@rcn.net. The winner will be selected based on video or essay authenticity, significant cultural experiences, and technology involvement in everyday life.

“As a local business, RCN is always looking for opportunities to give back and partner with our community. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we look forward to awarding a student with a scholarship that will help them further their education,” says Bruce Abbott, General Manager of RCN New York. “We at RCN New York hope that the winner will be inspired in their studies and pay it forward in the future.”

The scholarship has been made possible with support from RCN’s participating partners Olympusat, Wapa America and Ecuavisa. Each company is dedicated to providing the best in Hispanic programming, while celebrating and honoring the contributions of Latinos in the U.S.

The competition is open to students attending accredited secondary, post-secondary educational institutions and programs including, but not limited to; high school, college, university or trade school. Students who are homeschooled through an accredited program are also eligible.

The submission window is open now through October 14 with a winner being announced on January 31, 2017. Participants can enter online at rcn.com/tus-suenos or http://www.rcn.com/new-york/hispanic-heritage-campaign-your-dreams/.

RCN is the only cable provider in New York City to offer customers access to multiple popular streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu and HBO GO, through its TiVo powered set-top boxes, eliminating the need for multiple devices, remotes and hassle. The provider recently received PCMag’s “Readers’ Choice Award for Best ISP” for the second year in a row. Readers gave RCN the highest ratings in satisfaction, reliability and technical support for its internet service.
