Recently, Friends of Corona Plaza teamed up with Public Health
Solutions, Queens Museum and Queens EDC to host a summer family health
& wellness fair. The event featured a range of free health screenings
& wellness info. along with many free children activities including a
magic show, face painting, arts & crafts with lots of prizes. Pedro
Santana who owns the Jackson Hewitt store near the plaza and took
part in the event said “this health fair is an excellent opportunity
for our store to showcase the services we offer to the community,we
are looking forward to future events.” Visitors also enjoyed delicious
food and great shopping during the event. All in support of keeping
Corona Plaza a vibrant and well maintained public space for the
community to enjoy.
Other highlights included a special visit from the Corona Community
Ambulance Corps who came out with there EMT’s to screen for blood
pressure and to showcase how they respond to an emergency in the
community.
On Sunday the FDNY fire safety unit visited Corona Plaza with the
smoke house. Families learned how to react during a fire in the home
and how to stay safe.
