Apple Bank for Savings will serve as a Community Partner in support of the annual Daily News Food Drive in conjunction with City Harvest, which runs from October 23, 2018 through January 18, 2019. 51 Apple Bank branches in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items that will provide much needed sustenance during the holiday season for the more than 1.2 million New Yorkers facing hunger. Visit www.applebank.com to find the New York City branch location nearest you.
In its 36th year, the Daily News Food Drive is New York City’s largest annual holiday food drive, which last year collected over one million pounds of food items to feed thousands of New York City families for an entire winter.
Ruth Lindner, Manager of Food Sourcing at City Harvest, said, “More than 1.2 million New Yorkers, including one in five children, don’t always know when they will get their next meal. This year, City Harvest will deliver 61 million pounds of nutritious food to ensure that our neighbors in need can put meals on their tables. New Yorkers collected over one million pounds of food for the Daily News Food Drive last year, and our network of soup kitchens and food pantries relies on this drive to keep their shelves stocked over the winter months. We appreciate Apple Bank’s support in the fight against hunger in our city.”
James Matera, Executive Vice President and Head of Apple’s Consumer Banking Division, said, “Apple Bank is pleased to continue its support and partnership with the Daily News and City Harvest for this critical program that delivers much needed food and nutrition to so many families throughout New York City. By reaching thousands of neighborhood residents, the Daily News Food Drive allows Apple Bank and its employees to be part of that special bond which brings New Yorkers together to support those in need.”
